Anxiety isn’t “just” in your head—it’s in your nervous system, your memory, your breath, your whole way of experiencing the world. Recent research from institutions like the NIH and University of Cambridge report that anxiety activates the amygdala (your brain’s 24/7 threat detector). This activation can overrides the prefrontal cortex (yourbrain’s CEO and center for logic, calm, and decision-making). This ancient wiring is the reason humans are still on the planet. Evolutionarily, it has kept you and your ancestors safe from predators and physical dangers.
It’s worth taking a moment to give props to your (and your ancestor’s) amygdala. While you’re in this brief little conversation with your amygdala, you may also want to let it know that since most modern threats don’t come in the form of hungry predators, it could chill out a bit! This threat detection system and its activation of the flight/fright/freeze response is overwhelmingly less effective to today’s stressors of time management, digital breakdowns, and communication hardships. This ancient brain response keeps us stuck in loops of fear, fatigue, and self-doubt. But here’s the empowering truth: your brain is changeable.
Through tools like mindfulness, breathwork, and trauma-aware coaching, it’s well understood that calming the amygdala and strengthening the neural pathways that support emotional resilience, regulation, and clear thinking can help “rewire” our brains for more presences and curiosity and less anxiety. As mindfulness researcher Dr. Judson Brewer puts it, “The key is not to fight anxiety—but to understand the habit loops that drive it, and create new ones.” Neuroplasticity (the ability to “rewire”) creates hope and leverage— real change is possible.
That’s why I created Your Brain on Anxiety (And How to Rewire It)—a practical, research-based workshop for anyone ready to move from reactivity to intentionality. Whether you’re a leader, a caregiver, or simply human, this 90-minute experience gives you evidence-based tools to calm the nervous system, shift anxious thinking, and build a healthier, more empowered relationship with your mind.
You are not broken—you’re beautifully wired for survival. You’re also wired for adaptation, healing, and growth. With the right tools, you can change how you respond to stress, and reclaim your clarity, your confidence, and your calm.
