What is couples coaching?
Couples coaching is a guided, structured process where two partners work with a certified coach to improve communication, build trust, clarify goals, and strengthen their connection. Unlike therapy, which may address trauma or past wounds, coaching focuses on forward momentum, shared goals, and creating meaningful change together.
We use neuroscience-based tools, solution-focused conversations, and evidence-backed practices to help couples grow with intention and care.
Who is couples coaching for?
Couples coaching is for partners who are:
- Seeking better communication and conflict resolution
- Experiencing transitions (parenthood, career changes, etc.)
- Wanting to deepen their emotional connection
- Facing recurring challenges they haven’t been able to resolve alone
- Desiring a shared vision for the future
We support married and unmarried couples, LGBTQIA+ partnerships, co-parents, and long-term committed pairs.
How is couples coaching different from couples therapy?
Coaching is forward-focused and goal-oriented. It doesn’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Instead, coaching helps couples:
- Identify strengths and values
- Set shared goals
- Learn better ways to communicate and solve problems
- Rebuild connection in a practical, actionable way
If your relationship is experiencing high-conflict, abuse, or untreated trauma, therapy may be more appropriate. We are happy to refer you to resources if needed.
What can we expect in a couples coaching session?
Each session is a safe, structured space where both voices are heard. Your coach will guide you through:
- Honest conversations about what’s working and what’s not
- Tools for clearer communication and listening
- Alignment exercises around values, goals, and expectations
- Exercises that deepen empathy, trust, and collaboration
You’ll leave each session with practical takeaways and insights to implement right away.
Is couples coaching only for relationships in trouble?
Not at all. Coaching is just as effective for thriving couples who want to:
- Prepare for a life transition
- Improve intimacy or teamwork
- Explore shared goals
- Grow personally and together
Think of it as regular maintenance for your relationship—like tuning up a car before it breaks down.
Is coaching confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in your sessions is kept strictly confidential. Our coaches follow the ICF Code of Ethics, ensuring a professional and safe space for honest dialogue.
How long do couples typically work with a coach?
Many couples choose to start with a 6- or 9-session series spaced weekly. The timeline depends on your goals and needs—we’ll help you decide what’s best.
What results can we expect?
While each couple is unique, many experience:
- Greater clarity and compassion
- More productive conversations and fewer blow-ups
- Deeper appreciation for each other’s needs and differences
- A renewed sense of partnership and purpose
When both partners are committed, coaching can spark powerful and lasting change.
Do we need to attend every session together?
Most sessions are held together, but sometimes individual sessions may be helpful to gain clarity or explore personal dynamics. Your coach will guide you on the best structure based on your goals.
What if one of us is hesitant about coaching?
That’s completely normal. Coaching can feel vulnerable—especially if trust or communication has been strained. Our coaches are skilled at creating a non-judgmental space and easing both partners into the process. If both parties are willing to try, even cautiously, that’s a great start.
